Abstract
Hace ya más de un año se inicia en el mundo árabe un movimiento político y social que lejos de limitarse geográficamente al norte de África y el Oriente Próximo, se ha expandido por Occidente. Desde una perspectiva histórica se trata de un movimiento atípico, puesto que se caracteriza por tener múltiples protagonistas, objetivos diversos, ausencia de liderazgos claramente perceptibles a través de los medios de comunicación, carencia de propuestas globales y por el uso de las emergentes redes sociales en internet.
En esta perspectiva, el objetivo del presente artículo es avanzar en el análisis de este movimiento, evaluando la naturaleza de sus motivaciones e intentando identificar los factores que caracterizan, diferencian y en parte explican la persistente movilización social.
