Abstract
Este trabajo analiza la descripción de Charles Taylor sobre la identidad moderna y sus características, especialmente la nota de expresivismo, haciendo énfasis en la relación entre individuo y comunidad. Después de una breve presentación de su obra, se considera la noción de "esfera pública", como espacio privilegiado del debate político y social. Durante la exposición, se evidencian potenciales tensiones en torno a los sujetos, el tipo de argumentos y los objetivos del debate. Se intenta dar respuestas tentativas a estas interrogantes a partir de la distinción en diferentes niveles o tipos de la discusión pública, quedando abiertas a desarrollos futuros.
